How MailSplat works
Four steps from an overflowing mailbox to a tidy one — with your mail never leaving your own browser.
Create your MailSplat account
Register with your email address and a password, confirm the activation link we send you, and set up two-factor authentication by scanning a QR code with any authenticator app (Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator and others all work).
You'll also receive a 32-character recovery key — keep it safe; it's your way back in if you ever lose your authenticator.
Connect your mailbox
From your dashboard, choose Hotmail / Outlook.com or Gmail. You sign in on Microsoft's or Google's own page and grant MailSplat permission to read and tidy your mail.
MailSplat never sees or stores your email password — the sign-in happens entirely with your provider, and you can revoke the permission from your Microsoft or Google account at any time.
Scan — right in your browser
Press Scan and MailSplat walks your whole mailbox, recording every email's sender, recipients, subject, date and size. Junk, drafts and deleted items are skipped, and message bodies and attachments are never downloaded — only the details needed to measure what's taking the space.
This is the part that makes MailSplat different: the scan runs in your own browser, talking directly to Microsoft or Google, and the results are stored on your own device (in the browser's built-in database). Nothing about your mailbox ever touches MailSplat's servers.
Large mailboxes take a few minutes — a live progress bar shows emails counted and space found as it goes, and every completed scan is recorded in your scan history so you can watch the total shrink over time.
Review, then splat
The dashboard shows your totals, incoming vs sent, the senders taking the most space and your largest single emails — clear numbers and bar charts. Browse every address A–Z in Contacts, or open Emails & clean-up to work through the clutter: grouped by sender, or biggest first.
Tick what you don't want (whole senders at once if you like), press Delete, and confirm in the dialog — nothing is ever deleted without that confirmation. Deleted mail moves to your provider's own recoverable bin (Deleted Items / Gmail's Bin), so even after a splat you have roughly 30 days to change your mind.
On the Free plan you can delete up to 25 emails per confirmation. Pro unlocks one-click auto-select (100 / 200 / 300 at a time) and up to 300 per confirmation.
- No passwords: sign-in happens on Microsoft's / Google's own pages.
- No mail on our servers: scanning and storage happen in your browser, on your device.
- No message content: only sender, subject, date and size are read — never bodies or attachments.
- No surprise deletions: every deletion needs your confirmation, and goes to a recoverable bin.
- Always revocable: cut MailSplat's access off from your Microsoft or Google account settings at any time.
